No. In Ontario you don’t need a doctor’s referral to see a physiotherapist. Physiotherapists are regulated health professionals you can book directly, including for pelvic floor, prenatal and postpartum, and jaw (TMJ) physiotherapy.
When a doctor’s note can still matter
You don’t need a referral to be seen, but some extended health insurance plans ask for a doctor’s note before they will reimburse physiotherapy. Before your first visit, it’s worth checking with your plan:
- whether a doctor’s note is required for reimbursement
- how much physiotherapy coverage you have each year
- whether there is a per-visit maximum
We give you a receipt after every visit to submit to your insurer.
Does OHIP cover physiotherapy?
OHIP only funds physiotherapy at designated clinics for certain groups, such as people 65 and over, 19 and under, after an overnight hospital stay, or on Ontario Works or ODSP. Private clinics like Revival Physio aren’t covered by OHIP, but most extended health plans with physiotherapy benefits cover our visits.
What a first visit looks like
Your first visit is a one-on-one assessment with a registered physiotherapist. We take a full history, assess how you move, start treatment the same day and leave you with a clear plan. Assessments start at $140.
Ready to start? You can book online at our clinic in Leaside, Toronto. No referral needed.
